To everyone who has ever wished I'd just go take a flying leap...

me.. taking a flying leap

Yes indeed that is me, in the red, about it leap off a balcony into one of those stuntman airbags. Was pretty tough to do as I'm afraid of heights.

Its not the deep paralysing fear that some people have. Its not so much the heights themselves that root me to the spot. Its the falling. Now that sounds pithy, but its true. If I feel completely safe, or am convinced that I am safe, then I'm fine. Its just when I'm not convinced that I cling on to the ground and refuse to move. This is rare, but it does happen.

So it is part of my goal to overcome this that I did this.. now onto skydiving.

This was at The Outdoor Adventure Show - a extreme sports/general outdoors trade show/event that was held in Kensington Olympia this weekend. It was really cool, and yet again reminded me to get off my fat ass and into the gym. Lots of things there that I could do (like MountainBoarding) but that also cost a lot of money...

They were teasing me with the food places as well, first I was confronted with Supreme Sausages after not having had any lunch then, almost next door to them was Gormet Med which, although their website doesn't tell you much, is basically a yummy deli type place. Mmmmmmm...

*looks at the site* Hmm. 'Supreme Sausages' ... 'Sausage Club' ... 'Proper Sausages' all sound like gay clubs. and 'Traditional Old English Pork' sounds like a porno. Perhaps I just have been awake too long. ;]

Way to go man! Way to go! Now after skydiving, what's next?

I want to go skydiving soooo bad.

I'm a little afraid of heights, too. I went bungee jumping in Vegas. The guy said, "I'm going to count to five and when I get to five, dive." Well, I went on three because I knew if I waited til five I wouldn't go. Also, we did some rapelling at Camp Gruber once and the towers are set up like different helicopters. Well, the Blackhawk one (I'm pretty sure that's the one) doesn't have anything to hang onto while you lean back. When you lean back, you use your right hand to stop yourself with the rope, so you don't fall. But, I couldn't convince myself that I would not fall when I leaned back. I needed a rail to hold onto. I eventually did it, but it freaked me out pretty bad. (Interestingly, when it comes to the actual jumping off part of rapelling, I'm fine. Probably because I did it a lot with my dad's Boy Scout troop when I was a kid. But, there was always a rail to hold onto while I got set up.)

I've never had a problem with any of that.. probably because of the rope.

Then again going down isn't usually too much of a problem for me either.

The anticipation was the worst part... slowly waiting in line...

I am afraid of heights but found that skydiving was much easier than I expected. It didn't feel like I was up high like being on the edge of a building does. It only felt like I was exiting a room.

And the actual free fall was incredible! Amazing. And once the chute opened (OW) it was so peaceful and calm. I loved it.

Do it!
